An Ideal Chemical Policy

After watching all the videos and reading from module eight I think there a couple key elements that are essential for an ideal chemical policy.

Reason for policy: It is important to establish why a policy needs to be implemented. A brief reason would be placed in this section.

Introduction/History: After stating your reason for a policy. The writer needs to introduce the problem and justify the need for a new policy. Part of the introduction would also include the history of the problem. An example of such thing would be reduction of chemical exposure.

Definition: Setting clear parameters for the policy and defining terms. The inclusion of definition does away with any confusion and may educate those reading the policy who are not knowledge in the subject.

Guidelines: A set list of instructions would be in place to guide the execution of the policy. Setting standards and set levels of measurement.

Objectives: The goals of the policy would be clearly defined in this section.

Procedure: This section would outline the necessary steps needed enact the policy.

Instruments: The necessary tools would be designated in this section.

Reiterating the reason of the policy: The reader needs to be reminded of the reason for the policy and why it is beneficial.

I would focus on the procedure section with regards to an element of the public health protection. I think that step is essential in the ideal chemical policy. Its important to focus on the steps needed that execute a policy well. I believe that if the procedure is not clearly defined there may be room for error which is of no benefit. A strong well though out procedure section is essential for a policy.

  1. Hi Iliana,

I loved reading your post, and I think your ideal policy is very well-rounded and realistic! I like that you included a "history" section so that readers can gain a better understanding of the uses and laws/regulations around a policy so that we make sure the past does not repeat itself. I also really liked that you made an "instruments" section, which is something I admittedly did not think of! It's great for people to know how exactly the policy will be enacted, and what instruments will be necessary to make the new policy a reality. Overall, great job!

  2. Hi Iliana,

I liked reading your breakdown of an ideal chemical policies. I think all the elements you mentioned are includes many factors for an effective policy. Reasoning for the policy is definitely important to include; it is important to mention why the public needs this policy and how this need will be addressed. Also having a n objective or goals that you hope to meet can help measure the success of the policy after it is implemented. It was great reading your post.

MSDS and ToxNet

Hello, In this blog assignment I will be reviewing the MSDS and answering the following questions: Ethanol What are the health risks associated with this chemical? The health risks associated with ethanol are eye irritation, skin irritation, and specific target organ toxicity.  Is the chemical a carcinogen? Ethanol is a chemical What personal protective equipment or special precautions should be taken when working with this chemical? When working with this  chemical eye/face protection like wearing chemical safety googles and face shield should be used. Skin protection like wearing chemical protective clothing (gloves, boots, apron). Respiratory protection like wearing a NIOSH approved air-purifying respirator with an organic vapor cartridge should be used.  If this is a chemical found in your workplace, what training/education were you given about any risks associated with this chemical? I don't work with this chemical now, but I have in the p...
😊Hello!  This week I will be talking about Environmental Health Home assessment (Module1.5). The goal of this assignment is to asses my home for environmental health hazard. I've actually never done such assessment so I thought it would be an interesting assignment. Let's see how I did... p.s. images of the assessment will be present at the bottom The home I currently live in was built in 2003 so I didn't have many hazards in the house section. I don't think my house was ever tested for lead due to the year it was build. I do not have a basement so living space in basement did not apply to me. I will say I had never heard of home radon test and home radon ventilation systems. This was interesting because I had to do some extra research to clearly understand what radon was.  In my home I have a gas dryer that is vented, gas hot water heater that is vented, gas stove, fireplace, and combustion heating source. I do not have a wood stove or a gas, kerosene, or propan...

Think about it-Website Exploration

Hello! This week I will be writing about a local organizations that health professional volunteers can seek if a natural disaster were to occur. In my search I found two local organizations that are ready to help during a natural disaster.  The Sacramento County website also featured these organizations. Even though, the second organization is not exclusively for health professionals I think that they are a well-rounded organization with a great cause. Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps engages medical professionals who want to donate their time and expertise to prepare for and respond to emergencies. This organization also trains, deploys, and retains volunteer health professionals. If you are interested in joining the Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps you can do so by going to www.SacMRCfoundation.org and filling out an application. The Regional Center for Volunteerism Hands on Sacramento is an all-inclusive coalition of faith and community based organization. The coalition co...
