Hello! This week I will be discussing what I find most troubling about climate change, what I think needs the greatest attention now, and how I would describe climate change and its threats to someone.
I want to start off by mentioning that I find it very disturbing when people say they don't believe in climate change. It's astonishing that with the overwhelming amount of information people still have the audacity to say it's not true. Climate change is very real and happening at a very fast rate. As inhabitants of earth we need to do a better job of addressing this issue and slowing down the progression of it. The most troubling issue I find about climate change is the insane amount of plastic! I see pictures and documentaries of rivers filled with plastic items and it breaks my heart. How is it that we have let this problem get so big? Why didn't we try to prevent it?
Seeing sea animals die due to the ingestion of plastic because they mistake it for food is simply wrong. Not only are humans destroying their own homes but also homes of sea animals and wildlife. There needs to be a solution to save oceans as well as it's inhabitants.
As a public health professional I think that policy changes need our attention the most. I believe that it's the quickest and most effective way to stop the damage from continuing. There needs to be policy that ensures waste is being disposed properly, reduction in chemical and toxin emission, and aide for climate changes that are currently occurring at a accelerated rate. As a health profession I need to ensure that I advocate for our planet as it has an impact on our health. I need to ensure people are equipped with the necessary tools to live healthy lives and if our food has too many chemicals and the air isn't clean then how could I expect for an individual to be carrying out a healthy life?
The simplest way I could describe climate change is by saying that it's a change in the usual weather found in a place. The earth has been gradually warming and is expected to continue to warm for the next 100 years. The increase in temperature is causing changes to occur everywhere. Oceans are becoming more acidic harming animals like dissolving tiny snails protective shell. Humans have the ability to help the climate from changing as much. We can use less energy and water. If we don't help with the issue at head many ecosystems could be destroyed due to the increase in temperature.

Hi Iliana,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you- the amount of plastic that we waste is WILD! The fact some people don't believe in climate change is also SO dangerous, because if you dont' believe that what humans are doing is hurting this Earth, that impacts how we vote on policy change, public opinion, and even the every day decisions we make to live a healthier life. I also loved your take on explaining climate change- it was very simple and straightforward, and would be great for someone who is just getting into learning about this kind of information! Great job
HI Iliana,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post. I would say I am equally shocked by the amount of people who do not believe in climate change, especially given the amount of research and science that backs it up. And instead of focusing on ways that we as humans can slow down the progression of climate change, people just ignore it and continue contributing to the creation and release of greenhouse gases. I would agree that policy change it definitely one of the most important ways to make a change. We need to focus on developing policies that reduce emission of greenhouse gases, as well as fines any company that have high levels of release of these gases. It would also be good to include subsides for companies and businesses that reduce their contribution to global warming.
