Hello!
The thought of Zero Waste Life sounds amazing but then I have my doubts. I start to think about the difficulty of living waste free. Never the less, there are many new habits that I can start working on. I looked over Lauren Singer's blog and she has great tips for beginners.
There's plenty of changes I can make that would make living waste free an easy transition. The first change I can make is shopping at a farmers market. I could also support local farmers while making that change. Additionally, I need to be more mindful of packaged items and avoid packaging. The second thing I can do is recycle properly and compost. Trash is for Tossers has an informative post about composting and provides useful resources. Watching the video's in module 11 and seeing all the waste in places like Indonesia created more of an awareness for me. I think that at times people don't think it's a big issue because we are not seeing it first hand. Learning that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish is scary. Lastly, the third thing I can think of now that could make a waste free life possible is creating my own personal products like lotion, shampoo, and soap. I think those are simple daily items that I could start with.
Listening to Lauren talk about her life and the transition she has made it inspiring. It's possible to live a zero waste life. There simply needs to be an effort to do that. I'm going to look over her website and Bea Johnson in more detail to make these small changes a smooth transition.

Hi Iliana,
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the resources! I especially love the Trash is for Tossers website, super informative! Just like you, I also think it's a little too far-fetched for me to live *completely* waste-free, but I am doing my best to recycle/compost more, and learn more about how to make my own products so that I can live a healthier lifestyle for myself (by knowing what exactly is in the products I use), and for the environment around me (less plastic! wooh!).
